Notice: District 6 Fire Department is currently accepting applications for Firefighter/Operators. This is a competitive, entry level position.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or valid certificate of equivalency
  • Must have an active Civil Service test score

Civil Service testing information can be found here. There is an online testing option. Please bring a completed application, high school diploma or valid certificate of equivalency, state issued identification, and any fire service or medical certifications to Station 51 at 7878 Prescott Rd, Baton Rouge LA 70812.

After any offer of employment, but before beginning work, medical exams and required training must be completed. This will be provided by District 6 Fire Department. Please call District 6 Fire Department, Station 51 at 225-355-3110 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm for any questions. Full class details can be found here.

The staff at District Six trains extensively every day to ensure that we are providing the best possible service to our community. District Six has two fire stations, one on Prescott Rd. and a sub-station on Mickens Rd. We currently have 19 full-time employees and numerous contract employees.

10/11/2024

District 6 fire crews responded with BRFD on Ford Street for a reported house fire on Friday, October 11th at around 8:00 AM. Firefighter Cody Weigand rescued a small stray kitten; firefighter Emilie Case adopted it. Fire crews also rescued a dog from the structure.
