History of District Six Fire Department

Our Beginnings

District Six Fire Department was established to serve the growing communities of East Baton Rouge Parish. From humble beginnings with volunteer firefighters and limited equipment, the department has grown into a professional organization dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment.

The department's first station was constructed on Prescott Road, which remains our primary station today — Station 51. Over the decades, the department expanded its capabilities and personnel to meet the demands of a growing service area.

A second station was later established on Mickens Road to provide faster response times to the southern portions of our district, ensuring that all residents receive timely emergency services.
